Bob Zimmer has officially announced he will be running for the federal Conservative candidacy.

The current CEO of the Conservative Prince George-Peace River Electoral District Association and North Peace Secondary School teacher made the announcement at the Pomeroy Hotel, Wednesday.

Zimmer says he has lived and worked in various communities in the riding and feels he understands what the needs are of the people within the region.

He has announced five key points to his platform. One part of the platform addresses the economy, including making the area more attractive for businesses.

Some of his other points include getting rid of wasteful government spending, justice reform, democratic reform – including having an elected senate – and to continue to build a strong military.

Zimmer was born in Dawson Creek and has lived in Fort St. John for most of his life. He attended Trinity Western University and the University of British Columbia and has been involved with politics since 1987, when he signed up with the Reform Party.

The competition for the candidate nomination is anticipated to become difficult as more people are also expected to announce their candidacy but Zimmer says he hopes to work hard to gain the nomination.

He is currently the second person to have officially announced his candidacy after Don Irwin, Fort St. John city councillor and principal for the Christian Life School, made an announcement nearly two weeks ago.
