The city of Fort St. John will be signing its first ever Memorandum of Understanding with a First Nation group.
Mayor Bruce Lantz says the signing of a MOU is typically done for ceremonial purposes, however, it opens the doors for further discussions between the two signing parties.

Lantz says signing this first MOU shows that the city recognizes the various communities surrounding the city, including the Doig River, and that the two can create a partnership to discuss any issues or problems that arise.
He says this will probably provide a platform for other First Nations communities around the city to have similar understandings.

The MOU between the Doig River First Nation and the City will be signed on Aug. 13 at Centennial Park.
