Christmas is coming early this year with the Salvation Army
This is the second year the Salvation Army is putting on the event and the event will run for a full week. Most of the activities will take place between July 16 and 18 with a motorcycle event and July 23 and 25 with a food bank drive.
There will be a poker run for the motorcycle event beginning Friday night, where participants can pick up playing cards along a route and whoever has the best poker hand at the end will win a prize.
The motorcycles will also be displayed at Safeway tomorrow between 9 and 11am and there will be a dance with a beer garden on both Friday and Saturday night at the baseball diamond behind Rosco’s Pub.
Captain Ben Lippers, who works with the organization in Fort St. John, says the event will showcase a similar Emergency Response truck as one the Salvation Army wants to purchase to have in the city. The truck is used during emergencies and can help feed people during a disaster.
On both Wednesday and Thursday, next week, the Salvation Army will be having an open house for people to have a tour of their building and to see what the organization does. Residents will also be able to view the Emergency Response truck at that time.
Next weekend, people will also be able to donate food at Safeway, with all proceeds going towards the local Salvation Army food bank.

Lipper says last year the Salvation Army raised nearly 4,000 kg of food.
Anyone wanting to participate in the poker run must register at Rosco’s Pub at 6 p.m. tonight.
