A small fire on the Pine River will be left to burn following an incident Wednesday.

Shortly after 3:20pm, the Taylor Fire Department was called to a fire on a gravel bar on the Pine River, just west of Peace Island Park. Upon arrival crews discovered a large pile of washed up logs had been intentionally set on fire.

Chief Ryder said only 4×4 vehicles were able to access the fire and so the fire department called in the assistance of the Ministry of Forests. The Ministry recommended the fire be left to burn itself out as it was located on a gravel bar in the river.

The Fort St. John RCMP are investigating the fire as the Taylor Fire Chief believes the fire was set intentionally.  If you have any information about the fire, please contact the RCMP at 250-787-8140 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or
