Recent rash of FSJ residential B&E's

Fort St. John has been hit with a rash of recent residential break-ins and the RCMP is warning homeowners to put added emphasis on security.

Police believe electronics are the primary targeted prize and that the same thief or group of thieves could be responsible for the majority or all of the break and enters.

Unoccupied homes and townhouses have been the main targets and they’ve been hit both overnight and during daytime hours.

However, in one incident a home-owner encountered the thief, who fled without taking anything or harming her.

Since home entry is typically gained through unlocked or inadequately secured windows police are starting there with their security warnings.

They say open windows are not a wise warm weather response, in an unoccupied home and they should be closed and locked.

They’re also recommending dead bolts be installed on all exterior doors, including sliding doors.

They’re also looking for public assistance in catching those responsible for the break-ins and 250-787-8140 or 1-800-222-8477 are the numbers to call with any suspicious activity or past incident information.
