The fire hall open house allowed residents of Fort St. John to get a look at the new fire trucks in town and the plans for the new fire hall.

Residents were able to interact with firefighters, see the two new fire trucks that were acquired, and enjoy a barbecue.

Children and adults were able to learn about and go inside some of the different fire trucks in the station.

They were also able to view plans of the new fire hall that is expected to be built within the next couple of years.

The new fire hall is set to be more than three times the size of the current one. Fire Chief Fred Burrows says it will be just less than 2,500 square metres whereas the current fire hall is less than 1,000 square metres.

He says the new hall will be able to accommodate more and larger trucks. As well, it will be able to double as an emergency operations centre for an instance if the city might be in an emergency state.

The current fire hall has already had three additions put on since the original building was constructed in 1969.
