Average house prices highest in Fort St. John

Fort St. John is topping the list for the highest average housing sale prices in the North.

The B.C. Northern Real Estate Board has come out with its second quarterly report on housing prices in northern communities.

According to the report, Fort St. John currently has the highest average selling price of any city.

The city had a total of 342 properties that were worth $91.6 million in the first half of this year, which differs from the first half of 2009 which had 268 properties worth $67.2 million.

The average selling price for a residential detached home was $326,197 with 179 units on the market for the first six months of the year. The average price increased over 2009, which had an average sale price of $291,194 and 148 units in the same time period.

Prices did drop slightly from the first quarter of the year in which the city had an average selling price was just over $328,000.

The second highest average selling price was $249,213 in Williams Lake.

The lowest reported sale prices were in Mackenzie which had an average selling price of $90,565.

The number of homes throughout the region has increased over the first six months of 2009 from 1791 to 2256.

The report lists data from 14 communities in the North that have more than 10 detached houses for sale.
