Support Fort St John News

Couch potatoes in the Energetic City will have an excuse to get outside and exercise in the park next Monday.

The City of Fort St. John is holding its annual ‘Move for Health Day’, in conjunction with the B.C. Recreation and Parks Association.

Recreation Programmer Serena Warkentine says there’s a bunch of free events planned at Centennial Park.

The day starts with a ‘Walk with the Mayor’ event, from 12:10 p.m. until 12:50 p.m. Participants are asked to meet at City Hall, and will get to tour a part of the city on foot.

There’s also a free yoga lesson happening in Centennial Park at 12:10 p.m. Anyone interested can drop in, and should bring a mat, a water bottle and proper attire.

Many local gyms are offering free one-day memberships on Monday, including Today’s Techniques, Shapes of Success, World Gym and Energetics.

Warkentine says there will be a healthy and active living fair in Centennial Park from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Last year, more than 1,000 local residents came out for the Move for Health day, and Warkentine says organizers hope more than 2,000 people show up for this year’s event.
