As residents of a local apartment complex watched in horror while their homes were destroyed by fire, it was hard to imagine at the time how they would rebuild their lives.
After the fire broke out on April 16th, news trickled out that most of the apartment dwellers did not have insurance on their units.
So the day after the blaze, a huge campaign began to collect items to help the displaced residents start over.

A group of volunteers began collecting clothes, appliances and other necessities from the community.
Last week, volunteer Ginger Alexander said there were so many donations, that the group would have to hold a garage sale to clean out the storage room at the Totem Mall.
The garage sale will run April 28th and 29th, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the Totem Mall. Customers are asked to use the entrance near Safeway.
All of the proceeds will go directly to the fire victims.
