Canada’s top court has ruled against two men connected to the sex slaying of a 13 year old Edmonton girl in April of 2005
The Supreme Court of Canada judges ruled unanimously in both cases restoring the first-degree murder conviction of 23 year old Joseph (Snowman) Laboucan, originally from Fort St. John and dismissing the appeal of 38 year old Michael Briscoe.
The two were part of a group, which lured the young teen victim to a secluded golf course in Edmonton where she was raped and killed.
At trial two years later, Laboucan was convicted of first-degree murder, but Alberta’s appeal court overturned that conviction.
Briscoe was found not guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.
However, the Alberta Court of Appeal overturned his acquittal and ordered a new trial.
