Anti-HST petition signing slated for Tuesday

By staff

Organizers are hoping to collect as many signatures as possible at the anti-HST rally on Tuesday.

Participants are trying to recruit residents to drop by the Lido and sign a Citizens Initiative Petition, which was started by former Premier, Bill Vander Zalm.

Vander Zalm says the petition is registered with Elections B.C., so the Liberal government has to take it seriously.

The petition requires the signatures of 10% of registered voters in every riding. If successful, it would be submitted to a Legislative Standing Committee. Vander Zalm says that should result in a province-wide referendum on the HST, or a vote in the legislature to stop the tax from coming into effect on July 1st.

Anyone in interested in signing the petition can stop by the Lido on April 6th, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and midnight.
