Former BC Premier, Bill Vander Zalm is bring his fight against the HST to Northeastern British Columbia.
Vander Zalm has a launched a Citizen Initiative petition to stop the HST. The petition requires the signatures of 10% of registered voters in all 85 electoral districts in BC.
The tour will see Vander Zalm in Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge and Dawson Creek on March 13th. The only public event planed for that day will be in Dawson Creek at 7pm at the Kiwanis Performing Arts Centre.
Then on Sunday March 14, Vander Zalm will travel to Fort St. John and the Lido Theatre for a rally at 1pm.
“We are holding public Town Hall meetings to explain the petition and get people mobilized in each community to help stop this tax. The Citizen Initiative petition is a legally binding petition, which, if successful, will require the government to put our Bill to repeal the HST to a vote in the legislature, or to conduct a province wide referendum,” Vander Zalm explained.
“By getting all British Columbians to work together, we can stop the government from proceeding with this tax.”
The harmonized sales take will be introduced starting in July of this year and will mean a sales tax of 12 per cent, replacing the PST and GST.
According to the Government, HST will remove over $2 billion in costs for B.C. Businesses.
