A Fort St. John resident is dead following a snowmobile accident near the Powder King Ski Resort.

On February 22nd, officers with the MacKenzie RCMP were called to the scene, in an area known as “Old Friend.”

The preliminary police investigation revealed that the unidentified driver of the sled was ‘high marking’ with friends. The sled was descending from the hill, hit a rock, and the driver was thrown off the machine.

The 64 year-old man fell against a rock, and sustained internal injuries. He was transported to the MacKenzie Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
