Weibo Vows to Fight

Alberta eco-activist Wiebo Ludwig is determined to fight a legal request to brand him as a threat to the employees of three oil companies working in the Peace Region.

In fact his lawyer is expected to ask for an adjournment in the matter, when it goes to court tomorrow in Grande Prairie.

Ludwig says he needs more information on the basis for a peace bond application by Encana Corporation, Canadian Superior Energy and Seaview Energy Incorporated.

They claim they have legitimate fears that Ludwig, his son Ben and Richard Boonstra, could cause personal injury to their employees or agents and damage to their property.

Ludwig, who doesn’t expect to make a personal appearance in court this week, says he expects the oil and gas companies may try to use his previous legal run-ins to falsely paint him as a potentially violent character.

He and the 50 or so followers living at his Trickle Creek farm in the Hythe area, have been fighting oil-and-gas developments in the Peace Region for 15 years, blaming gas pipelines and sour-gas leaks for asthma, cancer and miscarriages.

However, Ludwig insists he’s not the person responsible for the half dozen bombings, at EnCana well sites in the BC Peace southeast of Pouce Coupe.

He was arrested last month, but not charged, as the RCMP searched his Hythe area farm for evidence related to the bombings.
