Ross H. MacLean Pee Wee Flyers
On Saturday, the Pee Wee AA Flyers had their closest game against the Grande Prairie AA Titans and scored first with a nice passing play when Alex Hartman slipped one in from Ricky Bateman and Tyler Wood. Grande Prairie scored the next four before Ralph Jarratt ripped one in from the point. It looked promising when Aiden Harris slammed one in a couple of minutes later from Jarratt and Lang, to bring the Flyers within one.
In the third the Flyers had numerous chances but it was only Grande Prairie who could find the net and they added one to make it a 5-3 final. Lane Delfs started and finished the game in net but Colten Lancaster had to enter the game for 15 minutes in the middle due to equipment problems.
On Sunday the Flyers results were better as they defeated High Prairie 5-4 in the morning game. Lang started the scoring when he picked off a pass and rushed in and scored one unassisted. Ryan Mulligan blasted one from the point to give the Flyers their second goal. Brysan Eklund tipped in Jordan Kosinsky’s shot from the point to tie the game at three. Ricky Bateman netted one from Hartman and Wood. Harris scored the winning goal for the Flyers. Lancaster picked up the win between the pipes.
The Flyers final All Peace Game was a success when they beat the Spirit River Rangers to take second place in the league. Lang got the Flyers on the board first when he put in Harris’ rebound four minutes into the game. Spirit River answered back with two of their own to take a 2-1 lead into the second frame.
The Rangers scored early in the second to take a 3-1 lead but it was all Flyers after that. Wood shot in Bateman’s rebound and then Lang netted his second from James Bowie to tie the game at three at the end of the second period.
Nolan Lagace gave the Flyers the lead with eight minutes left to play from Salina Edward’s pass and Harris was able to give the Flyers a little breathing room when he slammed one home from Mulligan and Sheldon Loewen. This proved to be the final goal of the game. Delfs earned the win in net.
The Flyers then joined their sponsor Ross H. MacLean in Centennial Park for the lighting of the Olympic torch. The Flyers are off to Quesnel for a tournament next weekend.
