Oil and gas land rights sale up from January '09

Almost $13 million in bonus bids was generated in January’s natural gas and petroleum land rights sale.

That’s up from the January ’09 numbers, which totaled only $7.1 million.

All of the offered 19 parcels of land in northeast B.C. were sold, spanning 9,444 hectares. The average price per hectare for the sale is around $1,372.

Six leases were generated in the Blair Creek area, which is approximately 115 kilometres north of Fort St. John. The bids were between $1,088 and $4,249 per hectare, and totaled around $4.7 million. One lease was acquired in the Sunrise Gas Field area, which is located 20 kilometres northwest of Dawson Creek.  The per-hectare bid totaled around $20,687 per hectare, for a total of more than $5 million.

The next sale will occur on Feb. 24, and will offer 22 parcels covering 15,374 hectares.
