Full Day Kindergarten will be implemented in ten District 60 schools this year.
The Ministry of Education made the announcement this week. It is offering 250 Full Day Kindergarten seats in the local school district beginning this September.
Seats were determined based on the district’s proposal and its share of total Half Day Kindergarten enrolment as of September 2009.
Schools that will be designated Full Day Kindergarten in September include: Alwin Holland, C.M. Finch, Ecole Central English Program, Duncan Cran, Robert Ogilvie, Taylor, Hudson’s Hope, Upper Halfway, Buick Creek and Wonowon.
Meanwhile, Full Day Kindergarten will be implemented over two years to allow some school districts and independent schools time to plan programs, recruit and train additional teachers, and accommodate expanded kindergarten in classrooms.
So, the following schools will continue with Half Day Kindergarten for one more year, and then transition to Full Day Kindergarten in September 2011; Baldonnel, Bert Ambrose, Ecole Central French Immersion Program, Charlie Lake, Clearview, Prespatou and Upper Pine.
Parents who would like more information about kindergarten programs are encouraged to speak with the Principal at their local school or to call the School District 60 Board Office at 250-262-6000.
