Denny Morrison to race in 4 different events at the Olympics

Fort St. John’s Denny Morrison will race in 4 events at the 2010 Olympics.

That announcement was made Monday afternoon, as Speed Skating Canada named the 16 long track speed skaters that will represent Canada in Vancouver.  Morrison will be one of Canada’s leaders, racing the 1000m, 1500m, 5000m and Team Pursuit events.

The 24 year-old won a silver medal at the 2006 Winter Games, and is considered one of Canada’s best medal hopes.  Denny’s older brother will have to watch Denny from the sidelines again this year, as Jay Morrison was not one of the 16 named to Canada’s olympic roster on Monday.

Denny will be joined on the men’s team by Jeremy Wotherspoon, who has climbed back into medal contention after breaking his arm at the start of the 08/09 season.  The women’s team will be lead by Clara Hughes, Cindy Klassen and Kristina Groves.  For the full team, visit http://www.speedskating.ca/index.cfm?id=2124

The athletes will continue their training in Calgary until the Continental Qualifier on January 23rd and 24th.  Following that, the team will head to Vancouver in preparation for the 2010 Games.
