The Chetwynd RCMP are warning citizens about a case of holiday-season internet fraud.
A release from the detachment tells the story of a Chetwynd resident who tried to purchase a dog from a breeder in Ontario. After paying for the animal with a money order, the victim was then presented with another request for shipping and handling charges. But, after the pet wasn’t delivered, the victim did a little more research, and discovered the breeder’s website had had numerous complaints relating to fraud, and had been shut down.
The RCMP remind anyone to use caution when making purchases over the internet.
As well, they are treating the incident as a case of fraud, and invite anyone with information that could aid the investigation to call the detachment, at 250-788-9221, or to call crimestoppers, at 1-800-222-8477.
