The new hospital under construction in Fort St. John is ahead of schedule.
Tom Sparrow from Northern Health and Gareth Hurlbut from ISL Health discussed the 297.9 million dollar project on Wednesday’s Issues and Answers.
Sparrow says with the warmer weather that the area received, crews were able to do some excavation work that was slated for next year.
Now, Sparrow says construction is winding down at the site, and over the next few weeks, an installation blanket will be set on the land.
But work will continue behind the scenes, with the P3 partnership stakeholders working closely together in the design development area.
Starting sometime in March, Sparrow says construction will pick up again, with as many as 200 workers expected to be on the site at any one time.
The key objective is to have the building enclosed by late next year, So interior work can continue throughout winter of 2010/11.
Hurlbut says when the building is complete, the ISL Health consortium will manage the site for the next 30 years.
The new hospital will include 55 beds and 123 beds in the residential care facility. Sparrow says it will also have an emergency department two and a half times bigger than the current one.
The hospital is anticipated to be complete in spring of 2012, with the official move-in slated for that summer.
