Local RCMP catch armed robber on Monday

The Fort St. John RCMP detachment arrested a robber on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 2:00 p.m., a man wearing a yellow hoodie approached three individuals on 101 Avenue in Fort St. John. He presented a knife and demanded money. The group ran into a nearby business to call police, and the suspect fled the scene. No one was injured in the incident, and the suspect did not get any money from the victims.

Shortly after, police located the 19 year old man with the help of a police dog. Officers say the man attempted to flee the scene, but was soon arrested. The man was intoxicated and was believed to be under the influence of drugs at the time.

Officers cannot identify the man until after his first court appearance, scheduled sometime on Tuesday. Police say the man is new to Fort St. John, but is well known to police is other areas and has a history on these types of crimes.

The suspect may have been involved in another incident shortly after this one where he again presented a knife. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, call the Fort St. John RCMP at 250-787-8140 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
