Flyers surge in Grande Prairie

Two weeks after their first taste of ‘AAA’ hockey, the Flyers returned to NPHL action in Grande Prairie on Thursday night.

It didn’t take long for the Flyers to hit their stride, with Todd Alexander scoring his first of two goals on the night just two minutes in.

Former Powell River Regal Andrew Derton made his Flyers debut on Thursday, notching two assists.  Singles came off the sticks of Bryce Novak, Kip Noble, Darren Peebles, David Alexander, and Clayton Bahm.  Brennan Jones and Mike Mohr replied for the Athletics, in a 7-2 Flyers win.

Scott Baker started his first game as a Flyer, stopping 18 of 20 shots for the victory.

The Flyers outshot the Athletics 54-20, and also scored three times on the powerplay.

The Flyers travel to Hythe on Friday night to take on Mike and Colin Lefley and the Mustangs.

The Flyers next home game won’t be until November 21st when they host the Mustangs.  That night will also be the annual Teddy Bear Toss.  After the first goal of the game, fans are invited to throw Teddy Bears on the ice, with all bears to be donated to the Salvation Army.
