The Buick Creek Arena project is getting a helping hand from the Federal Government.

Prince George / Peace River MP Jay Hill announced today the government will provide $939,267 towards upgrades at the Arena.  Speaking at the Peace River Regional District meeting in Dawson Creek, Hill said the funding comes from the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RinC) program.

The project is also receiving $1.11 million in Fare Share funding from the PRRD’s Area B.  The remainder of the costs are being borrowed, and will be repaid over a period of 20 years.

The $4.6 million project broke ground this May, and will be complete around March of 2010.   It will have an NHL-sized ice rink, as well as bleacher seating for 200, heated changing rooms, and a concession.
