A familiar red flower brought out some emotions at City Council on Monday night.

Members from the local Royal Candian Legion made a presentation to Fort St. John City Council on Monday. Their presence announced the start of the annual poppy campaign and season of remembrance.

An emotional Councilor Christensen reiterated the importance of a single red poppy.

As always, poppies are available by donation, and 100 per cent of the proceeds stay in the area.

Major Dan Davies says the money is distributed to various groups.

The pin is meant to be worn on your left lapel, over your heart.

Poppies will be available at most business locations throughout the area.

Davies also says this is a good time to join the Fort St. John Royal Canadian Legion. Membership is open to everyone, and not only veterans.
