Peace River RCMP attend fatal weekend accident

The Peace River Regional RCMP detachment attended a fatal collision scene on Saturday.

At approximately 4:15 a.m., police were called to Township Road 840 near Range Road 225, northwest of Peace River.

Fire and emergency medical crews also attended along with officers from the Grimshaw detachment.

The initial investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Malibu Sedan had been traveling east on Township Road 840 when the driver lost control of the vehicle. When officers arrived at the scene, the vehicle was found rolled over on its roof.

The vehicle was carrying two adults and four children between the ages of 3 months and 4 years.

A 20-year old Edmonton resident was ejected from the vehicle and succumbed to her injuries. The deceased has been identified as Laura Ann Blue.

The second adult occupant was transported to Peace River hospital for assessment, but did not suffer any life threatening injuries.

One child was found to have also been ejected from the vehicle, but escaped serious injury. A second child did suffer a fractured arm, while the two other children are believed to have escaped major injury.

All children involved in the collision were transported to Peace River hospital for follow-up care. Police believe that alcohol was a factor in the incident, and officers continue to investigate.

Anyone with information or may have witnessed this accident is asked to contact the Peace Regional RCMP Detachment.
