Local woman vies for Ms. Planet Beach International title

A Fort St. John native will be representing the area at the Ms. Planet Beach International competitions in Reno, Nevada.

Corrie-Lynn Wilkes qualified for the competition when she won a regional event at the Looney Tunes bar in July.

Preliminaries were held throughout more than 100 bars throughout Canada, the U.S., Ireland, and South Africa.

Wilkes will now compete with 75 women for a $100,000 franchise modeling contract and $30,000 to open up a Planet Beach Contempo Spa.

The competition begins on Saturday, October 17th and goes until the 22nd.

Planet Beach is a beauty line and spa franchise. The competition was open to women ages 18-34 who exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for the Planet Beach brand.

Wilkes says if she wins, she plans to open a spa up in Grande Prairie.

Wilkes is encouraging the community to log onto www.planetbeachpageants.com to vote for her as the People’s Choice Award. She is currently in fourth place.

Voting costs one dollar, and all proceeds will be donated to ‘Make It Right’, a charitable foundation founded by Brad Pitt. The money is used to build sustainable, eco-friendly homes in New Orleans for those who lost their homes as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

Wilkes lives in Grande Prairie, and works as a waitress/shooter girl as she saves up for college.
