A 43 year-old man is in custody after attempting to flee the Fort St. John RCMP on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier, RCMP members received a tip of suspected drug activity near the Totem Mall. Officers began searching for the suspect, who was driving a green mustang.

The suspect, who was known to the police, was located on 93rd Avenue near 89th Street at around 4:40 p.m.

The man fled on foot, and officers apprehended the driver a short distance from the traffic stop on 93rd Avenue.

Police say the man continued to resist arrest, so officers put the man into restraints. The suspect was treated at the Fort St. John Hospital for minor but undisclosed injuries.

Officers say they seized an undisclosed amount of cash and cocaine.

The man now faces charges for trafficking of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

Police have not released the suspect’s name.
