Traffic fine funding heads to BC communities

The Provincial government has announced almost $830,000 in funding for Peace River North communities.

The cash is to further public safety initiatives and support local government operations.

The City of Fort St. John will receive around $238,000, 150 thousand of which comes from its portion of traffic fine revenue.

Other amounts include $221,000 for the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality, $146,000 for both Hudson’s Hope and Taylor, and $77,000 for the Peace River Regional District.

The communities can expect one final installment in the funding in 2010, as prescribed by the Strategic Community Investment Fund – a program that gives 100 per cent of net traffic fine revenues to local governments across the province.
