Dawson Creek Rural RCMP detachment up and running

The Dawson Creek Rural RCMP detachment is up in full force.

In July, the Dawson Creek RCMP announced it was searching for a suitable building in Tom’s Lake.

The idea was to have four officers working out of the temporary satellite detachment, to service the rural community.

However, Sergeant Stephan Grant says the RCMP has decided on another option.

Grant says three officers are from the Dawson Creek detachment, while the fourth member just completed a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

The Rural RCMP detachment will continue on for six months.

Sergeant Grant says he hopes the added police force will give peace-of-mind to the rural community.

After the six months is over, the RCMP will re-evaluate the initiative to see if it will be maintained.

But, as Sergeant Grant says, anything could affect the fate of the new detachment.

The EnCana bomber sent a letter in July, saying the company has three months to stop oil and gas activity, or the bombings "will get a lot worse."
