Body found in Grande Prairie's Wapiti River

A group of people enjoying an afternoon ATV ride found a body in the Wapiti River on Thursday.

Police say the group contacted the police upon making the discovery. The Grande Prairie RCMP detachment is calling the death "suspicious", and is investigating.

The Medical Examiner’s office has scheduled an autopsy for Friday afternoon.

The Forensic Identification Section, Police Dog Service, and Technical Search and Rescue were on scene on Friday morning to help further the investigation.

The discovery was made close to the area’s pulp and paper mill, 12 kilometres south of Grande Praire.
