People from all over the Peace Region will be coming together this weekend to honour a 50th birthday.
The birthday boy – the Jackfish Lake Road.
Organizer Betty Deck says this Sunday’s rally will celebrate the road’s 50th anniversary, and also bring awareness for the need to upgrade it. [asset|aid=1836|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=9ade1642f1a33da18abd1d8a8a458bdf-Betty Deck 1_1_Pub.mp3]
The road was first constructed in August 1959 by a group of volunteers from across the Peace River country. And, Deck says the 105 kilometre-long road was much needed at the time. [asset|aid=1837|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=9ade1642f1a33da18abd1d8a8a458bdf-Betty Deck 2_1_Pub.mp3]
Deck says many younger families currently live along the road, but there are some people who have lived there since the beginning.
So, She’s encouraging everyone to come out and travel the road for the Big 50 Road Rally celebrations. Any mode of transportation is welcome, including horses, ATV’s, and bikes. There will also be a bar-be-que after the event.
The pre-registration deadline is on Wednesday, and anyone interested can sign up, or find out more, at their local city hall.
