The Charlie Lake shoreline is getting some TLC this weekend.
The shoreline is one of many across Canada that will sparkle after the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.
BC Hydro PowerSmart’s Ben Gardiner is spearheading the local cleanup. Gardiner appeared on Issues and Answers on Wednesday morning. He says he expects to find a lot of ‘common’ litter like straws and Styrofoam coffee cups.
The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup started in 1994. A group of workers from the Vancouver Aquarium got together to cleanup a local shoreline.
Since then, the event spread nation-wide. It is now the second largest cleanup activity in the world.
Last year he says volunteers removed 135,000 kg of litter from Canadian waterways in just one week.

Alternatively, participants can show up at the Beatton Park shoreline on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Gardiner says he will supply garbage bags and gloves to all participants.
