Women's Resource Society holds first art competition

The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society is working to stimulate creativity among women in the community.

The Society is holding its first annual art exhibit, entitled, ‘Phenomenal Women." Executive Director of the Women’s Resource Centre, Emily Goodman, says the idea stemmed from some bare walls.

She says the exhibit will encourage women to explore their artistic nature, while celebrating the female experience.

The competition is open to women and girls with any level of artistic skill. The society also has a limited number of free art materials to anyone who wishes to participate.

Any form of art medium will be accepted, as long as it is respectful and can be displayed to everyone.

Goodman says she hopes all women in the community make a submission.

Chosen submissions will be on display permanently at the new Women’s Resource Society office at 10051-100th Avenue.

Members from the society will be judging each submission, and prizes will go out to the winning art. The chosen entries will be unveiled at an open-house sometime in the fall.

The deadline to drop off submissions is September 30th, at 5pm.
