Tomslake might get a natural gas distribution system as soon as next spring.
The Prince George Citizen reports that the proposed project is a joint endeavor between Pacific Northern Gas, EnCana, and the Peace River Regional District.
It will consist of the installation of approximately 140 kilometres of natural gas distribution mains and related service lines and facilities.
The Prince George Citizen reports that residents of the Tomslake area currently choose between propane, diesel, and electricity to heat their homes. Electoral Area ‘D’ Director Wayne Hiebert says natural gas is less costly than these three sources, adds to property values, produces fewer pollutants than propane or diesel, and provides security of supply.
Through the Fair Share fund, the Peace River Regional District has contributed just over one million dollars to the project, and EnCana is providing $150,000.
