Local Rainfall Totals

Local weather watchers have shifted their focus back to rainfall amounts from high temperatures.

8.4 millimeters of rain yesterday, added to 7.8 on Sunday, gave the region nearly 30 percent of the August average of 56.1 in the first three days of the month.

In addition, in some isolated areas of the region, there have been reports of up to double the official two day total of 16 point two millimeters.

Meantime, the local area July total, was 55.4 millimeters, but despite being more than two a half times the amount we received, in the same month last year…that’s still only two-thirds of the July average, of 83.2.

It was also the third consecutive month, of below normal precipitation…and it left the total this year for the months of May, June and July, at 125.5 millimeters.

That’s a three month shortfall of 68 millimeters so to cover it and the August norm, we’ll need another 125 millimeters, this month alone.
