The Peace River Regional District is trying to decide whether or not to change a zoning bylaw for a local towing company.
The zoning law change would apply to all Light Industrial Zones areas covered by Zoning Bylaw 1343, 2001, which are basically the fringe areas of cities of Fort St. John , Dawson Creek , and Chetwynd.
General Manager of Development Services Bruce Simard says towing companies are in a bit of a grey area.

The proposed bylaw is to add “towing and storage” to the list of uses allowed with the I-1 Zone, or the Light Industrial Zone.
The proposed bylaw change was initiated by the owners of First Choice Towing in Fort St. John.
Around 20 people showed up to the public forum on Thursday to voice their support and concerns about the proposed change.
Concerns ranged from the possibility of diminishing property values, to the domino effect of changing bylaws. Others were in favour of the change, saying it won’t affect their property. But, nothing is set in stone, and there will be more chances for the public to discuss their opinions in a public forum.
Simard explains what is next in the process.

He says the Regional District will notify the public on upcoming public forums.
