While cooler temperatures and precipitation have slowed fire activity, the public is encouraged to use caution when burning campfires.

Though fire activity is low in the Prince George Fire Centre, a risk of fire still remains and the fire danger rating continues to be high provincially. As the need for resources in the southern half of the province persists, it is imperative that the public follow all campfire safety rules and prevent any unnecessary human-caused fires.

The following tips are provided to ensure campfire safety:
– Make sure to build a proper fire pit and put a ring of rocks around the fire.
– Have water and hand tools, such as a shovel, close by.
– Never leave your campfire unattended.
– Make sure that the fire is completely extinguished before you leave the area.
– To extinguish a fire, saturate it with water and stir until it is completely cold to the touch.

The fire danger rating is currently extreme to low throughout the Prince George Fire Centre, with the highest risk in the southwest regions of the fire centre.
