Fort St. John’s Director of Facilities and Protective Services says an unfinished parking lot shouldn’t inconvenience the users of the Enerplex this winter.

Jim Rogers says the likelihood of fully completing the parking lot by snowfall is quite low.

Interoute Construction Limited was the only company to submit a bid for the construction tender of the Enerplex’s south parking lot.

But, at Monday’s Special Council Meeting, Councilors rejected the bid because it was much higher than they had anticipated.

Interoute submitted a bid of just over $3.3 million dollars, which exceeded the City’s estimation of just over $2.5 million dollars.

So, Rogers says it’s back to the drawing board. He says the City will begin prioritizing tasks, and determine what can be left until the next construction season. He says things like landscaping aren’t a high priority at this time, and could be forwarded as a project for next year.

Rogers says the soft opening is still scheduled for September, but an exact opening date has not yet been determined.
