The Peace River RegionalDistrict has made a financial contribution to the Alberta Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society on behalf of residents in the district.

Representatives from STARS were on hand to accept the $116,528 donation. The contribution represents two dollars per capita for the population of the Regional District. The seven municipalities and the four electoral areas are included, which totals around 58 thousand residents.

STARS Grande Prairie base is reporting that it’s responding to more calls in B.C. this year than in previous years. In 2008, the base received 14 calls, and completed six missions. This year to date, STARS has received 16 total calls and completed 13 missions.

Pilot and General Manager of Grande Prairie Base Andy Stewart says STARS has begun bringing Alberta patients to B.C, and is now doing in-province transfers.

Municipalities in Northern Alberta have made similar donations, but the PRRD’s donation marks the first in British Columbia.
