The Prince George Fire Centre responded to 46 new fires over the long weekend, almost all caused by lightning.
Fire Information Officer Lindsay Carnes says the 56 millimetres of rain in Fort St. John throughout the weekend was beneficial to the Northeast.

She says the Northeast’s fire danger rating is moderate, unlike the rest of the province, which is mostly high or extreme.
Now, there are no major wildfire starts to report on from the weekend. However, Carnes says the campfire ban is still in effect.

The Smith/Liard fire continues to burn, more than two months since it was discovered in June.
