RCMP warn about another internet scam

The Fort St. John RCMP has issued a public warning about a new type of Internet fraud.

It involves selling cars through online classified ads…and the seller uses a photo of the vehicle and places an ad with a low price on the vehicle.

However, there are very few details beyond that and the seller is often unable to provide further information about the vehicle…such as the serial number or previous owners.

The seller, who claims to live out of country, says the vehicle is stored in Canada…but provides a telephone number with an area code different from the storage location. Police also note, that cities and location vary from ad to ad…and since the phone numbers provided as contact numbers are false, the only way to communicate with the seller is by e-mail, such as hotmail.

The Mounties are reminding the public to confirm the accuracy of any information, related to vehicular sales of this nature…before providing the usually requested, buyer’s address and sale deposit, by Moneygram or Western Union.
