The City has decided to award an out-of-town contractor for the expansion of 112th Avenue.

Hoban Equipment Limited put a tendered bid of just over 2.6 million dollars. Meanwhile, DGS Astro Paving submitted a bid of just under 4.2 million dollars.

Councilor Bruce Christensen questioned why the bidding gap is so large. He says it worries him that a contractor from out of town could bid so much less than a local contractor.

But, Director of Public Works and Utilities Victor Shopland says the company followed the proposal application process correctly…

The avenue will expand to make way for the new Fort St. John Hospital. The construction includes base construction, curb, gutter, sidewalks and lighting.

Northern Health is paying for all of the work to be completed, and estimated that the total cost would be five million dollars.
