According to the city’s May, Building Inspection Report, the value of construction in Fort St. John this year continues to fall behind last year’s pace.
31 building permits were issued last month, with a total value of 1,460,000 dollars. However, during the same month last year 54 permits were issued, worth more than 10 million dollars.
As a result, the 2009 year-to-date totals are now 63 permits, worth 4,791,000 dollars.
By comparison, the first five months of the last calendar year produced 112 permits, with a total value of 42,131,000 dollars.
Not surprisingly, there’s also a sharp drop in the corresponding amount of city revenue. This year it is pegged at just over 24,000 dollars, as compared to more than 92,000 for the same period in 2008.
