Children from the Robert Ogilvie Elementary School got a taste of the sea on Tuesday morning.
The BCTC AquaVan was full of starfish, crabs and spongy creatures from BC’s coastal waters.
Wade, the van’s Program Developer, says she hopes the kids take away a new appreciation for the ocean.
The AquaVan has been around since 1994, and touring around Western Canada to educate children and youth. The van’s last visit to Northern BC was around three years ago.
However, with the help of several local sponsors, students from Kindergarten to Grade three were able to experience the different sea creatures.
Wade says many children from northern communities have seen these animals on television, but have never actually seen them in real life.
The AquaVan will be off to Fort Nelson, before returning home to Vancouver.
