BC Children's Hospital wants Fort St. John to "Be a Superhero"

Representatives from the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation were in town on Monday to encourage the City to Be a Superhero.

President and CEO Sue Carruthers and others presented an ambitious fundraising initiative, called "Be a Superhero," to the Fort St. John and District Chamber of Commerce.

The foundation hopes to raise 200 million dollars to help fund a new Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.

Carruthers says the term ‘Superhero’ is meant to describe many different people involved with the hospital.

She says the foundation has raised more than 80 million dollars to date. Several larger businesses throughout the Province have also pledged generous donations.

Carruthers says 50 million of the 200 million raised will be distributed to hospitals throughout the Province, including Fort St. John, to help with local pediatric services. She says the level of funding will be decided based on need.

Meanwhile, she says donations are being accepted in any denomination.
