Fort St. John Fire Department upgrades its system

The Fort St. John Fire Department officially launched its Computer Aided Dispatch system on Monday.

The new FDM Software system is expected to optimize resources and provide a high standard of emergency response in the region.

Roger Stroud helped implement the FDM Software in 1998. He says this was a much-needed upgrade to the fire department’s system.

Fort St. John’s Fire Department provides dispatch services not only for the City, but for Charlie Lake, Hudson’s Hope and Taylor. It is also the first responder EMS assistance to BC Ambulance throughout the coverage area.

So, the new CAD system will enable dispatchers to quickly prioritize resource assignments during emergency response.

Fire Chief Fred Burrows says the transition from the old to the new system has been underway for nine months.

The new system is expected to shorten response times, streamline reporting and increase responder safety.
