Suicide has been determined as the cause of a Tumbler Ridge House explosion.

Following an investigation by the RCMP and the BC Coroner’s Service, the Sunday morning explosion that destroyed one home and damaged up to 26 other homes in the community, has been deemed a suicide.

The RCMP believe during the early morning hours of May 31st, David Poudrier tampered with a natural gas line in his home causing the explosion.

The 57 year old was the only person at home at the time of the explosion.

Economic Development Officer Ray Proulx says the community is still recovering from this tragic event.

He adds the Tumbler Ridge Building Department is working with the homeowner’s insurance companies examining the extent of damage…and, public works has been working with the RCMP and the fire department to ensure the clean-up is done safely and efficiently.
