Hospital Foundation purchases new maternity equipment

The Fort St. John Hospital Foundation will purchase a new radiant warmer for the maternity ward of the Fort St. John Hospital.

In April of this year, the Foundation started a campaign to purchase equipment for a third birthing room at the Fort St. John Hospital. With help from a recent Radioathon fundraiser and a $10,000 donation from Mustang Rentals, the foundation was able to purchase the first piece of equipment for the new birthing room.

The birthing bed allows the patient to remain in the same room for the entire labour and delivery experience. In the past year the births in our hospital have increased from 560 in 2007 to 645 in 2008.

By the end of the campaign this fall, the foundation hopes to raise a total of $150,000 and purchase the remaining 5 pieces of the equipment for this room. So far they have raised $50,000.

The Foundation is also celebrating with the Alcan Chapter 91, Order of the Eastern Star as they have now donated over $450,000 to the foundation.

The group in 2000, created the Eastern Star Children’s Fund as a means of highlighting their dedication to help the Hospital Foundation acquire pediatric and maternity equipment. Recently this group donated $1,000 to the Maternity Equipment Campaign. Over 980 corporate and private donors have contributed to the fund.
