An innovative strategy is underway, to develop an entire neighborhood in Fort St. John.

Sebastian Moffat, from Sheltair Group, presented a sustainable Neighborhood Charrette plan to City Council on Monday Night.

The plan detailed ways to develop the area between 86th street and 79th street. It is a chunk of land around 37 Hectares in size.

Councilor Lori Ackerman says it’s a great opportunity to see what the community can do. She says other cities build their communities street by street, but Fort St. John has the opportunity to design a complete neighborhood. She says not every community gets this opportunity.

Councilor Trevor Bolin agrees.

The plan details everything from converting 86th Street to a pedestrian friendly area, to utilizing trees in protecting the proposed new housing.

Councilor Christensen says the plan was innovative and could put Fort St. John on the map.

Councilors will now have to thoroughly review the plan.

There will be a Final Presentation at the Lido Theatre on Tuesday, May 26th. Members of the public are invited to attend the presentation to provide input on the idea.
