Accessibility Awareness Day on Friday

Fort St. John City Councilors and members of the media will be hitting the pavement in wheelchairs this Friday.

The Rick Hansen Foundation will be collaborating with SPARC BC and Measuring up the North, to host Access Awareness Day on May 29th.

Spokersperson Lori Slater says the event will take participants through a planned route through the city.

She says it will give participants a chance to feel what it’s like to use a wheelchair in everyday activities.

There will be around 12 participants attending the event. Wheelchairs are being donated by several organizations and individuals.

Slater says she hopes it doesn’t rain on Friday, but she might continue the event even if it does.

Anyone interested in participating can call Lori Slater at 250-787-1912. Slater says if there are no wheelchairs available, those interested can walk the route.

After the event, Slater says there will be an information session on accessibility at the North Peace Leasure Pool, around 5:30 pm.
